For many years, psychotherapy has been successfully applied in therapeutic work with couples in Latvia. However, successful treatment requires finding the right psychotherapist—someone with appropriate experience and medical education.

What do partners seek in a relationship? Stability, safety, and predictability? If these elements are missing or one of them is lacking in the relationship—or if, over time, the expected experiences are not being fulfilled—a crisis may occur. In such cases, consultations with a doctor-psychotherapist can be helpful.

In couples psychotherapy, there is a belief that the problems of two individuals are the result of their interaction with each other.

Throughout psychotherapy, it often becomes evident that various factors have led to the problems, such as the unconscious influence of the parents' relationship, the unconscious impact of the parents' attitudes toward the patient in childhood, the ability or inability to seek and find compromises, the ability or inability to communicate, and the emotional problems of both partners.
